In the Spring of 2007, I saw an ad on Craigslist that asked if anyone was interested in editing a short HD film that would be entered in various film festivals. It was entitled, “The Jewelry Box.”
I met Raynna Thomas for coffee and began a wonderful adventure working on a moving short film written by Raynna’s mother, Janice Thomas. Together, they call their production company “Misoso Productions”, and the cast, crew, and directors couldn’t have been better. Aravind Ragupathi was the Director of Photography and he provided beautiful shots in HD. Unfortunately, I discovered that Final Cut Pro 5 couldn’t edit his particular brand of HD, so I had to borrow Janice’s new laptop and FCP Studio 2 to do the work. Over the course of a couple weeks worth of hours spread out over a couple months, Janice and I cut the film and tweaked audio. I also had several of the actors over to perform looping and ADR to the screen in my studio. This was my first attempt at ADR, but the actors, including a four year old little girl, were great and it worked out in editing.
Another editor in Charlotte has since added the credits, music, and color-correction. I haven’t yet seen the finished product, but I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s got a real shot at getting in some festivals. Come on Sundance!
