Frequently Asked Questions:
The Wicked Witch Project
Last updated: June 24, 2006 by Kevin Darbro
Q: You're kidding, right? You
aren't actually making this movie, are you?
A: Surprise, we're not kidding. "The Wicked Witch Project" movie is real. It was released on VHS in 1999, and on DVD in 2005. It's pretty darn silly. Shooting began on September 18th,
1999, and the first final edit was completed on October 15th., 1999. In 2005, Kevin sent Joe the master Beta SP tape for a Special Edition DVD. You can get
your copy from this very website! The Special Edition DVD contains a version of this website, commentary from Kevin and Joe, a new edit from Joe of the original footage, behind the scenes footage, a "making of" documentary, deleted scenes, television and radio interviews with Joe and Kevin, and previously unseen Super 8mm footage.
Q: So when will it be out?
A: The film premiered at the Exoticon
Sci-Fi convention in New Orleans on Friday, November 19th, 1999, at 6pm. Several members
of the cast and crew were onhand for an audience Q&A session after the the screening.
Response was so great, we were invited to show the film AGAIN the following
afternoon! We sold many copies of the film at the premiere, and now you too
can get your hands
on it!
Q: So who's responsible for the movie?
A: A bunch of nut-nuts. A very rough version of the credits:
ACTORS: Dorothy:
Casey Porn (yes, it's her real name! Isn't that
cool?). Scarecrow: Brian Ludviksen. Tin Man: Kevin
Darbro. Lion: Michael Smith, who's too sexy for
his bio.
CREW: Director and Editor: Joe
Barlow. Producers: Joe Barlow and Kevin
Darbro. Costume Designers: Stef Maus, Matt Routh and Lindsay Duggan (Lindsay
is also handling make-up).
WRITERS: All of the above, plus some of
our Internet buddies, who have been kind enough to suggest some gags.
Q: Can I help out in any way?
A: Sure, by referring your friends, neighbors, and complete strangers to our web
site. The more attention we get, the more people will be able to see our movie, and the more warm fuzzies we'll all share.
Thanks for stopping by, incidentally!
Q: Is this the film I saw on "Entertainment Tonight?"
Q: How can I stay informed on the latest WWP news, including screenings?
A: Alas, no. That's The
Oz Witch Project, a similar but unaffiliated film that went
into production at approximately the same time, though neither of
us knew about the other until just recently. Oz Witch's director, Michael Rotman,
has been in contact with us, and is a heck of a nice guy. At the moment, we're
just trying to let our two films co-exist peacefully. If you visit his site, tell him the WWP sent ya.
Q: Are you guys open to doing interviews?
A: Sure-- anything for some publicity! Contact
us if you'd like to interview the cast and/or crew for your TV show, radio
program, news article, or weather forecast. Tom Lawrence of WRAL-TV was kind
enough to be the first to profile The Wicked Witch Project on television. The WRAL-TV interview ran at 5:15 p.m., E.S.T., September 3, 1999. Thanks Tom!
Q: Who else has been nuts enough to pay attention to your site?
A: We are proud to have the best and the brightest among our visitors, including yourself. Thanks for stopping by! Some other people that dropped in were:
The
Philadelphia Inquirer (From
Sunday, September 5, 1999's paper. This same article also ran in the New York Journal around the same time.)
The Mix 101.5 FM Morning Show with Bill and Schatzie (September 23, 1999) (Click here to read a transcription of their interview with Joe and Kevin.)
The Arizona Reporter (September 16, 1999)
The Mike Durrett Show (Humor Daily Surprise on About.com) (September 4, 1999)
Editor's
Choice Award from Techmall.com (September 2, 1999)
Sci Fi Magazine (Fall, 1999)
Q: How will you distribute the film?
A: Unless a major distributor gives us an offer we can't refuse, we'll
shop TWWP around to small theaters and film festivals on a one-on-one
basis. The Special Edition DVD is available now.
Q: Will there be a premiere party for TWWP?
A: We premiered at Exoticon (a sci-fi/fantasy/horror
convention) in New Orleans this November, and now we're looking for somewhere
to show the film in Raleigh in early 2000.
A: Why, by emailing us!
If you have a question that's not listed above,
please drop us a line.
